Sunset Beach North CarolinaSunset Beach North Carolina Sunset Beach, North Carolina is roughly just 3 miles in length thus making it the smallest of all the Brunswick County barrier islands. Despite being the smallest, Sunset Beach North Carolina has got a lot to offer in terms of recreation and entertainment. The development in this area started in 1955 the year when Mannon Gore first bought the island from the International Paper Company and the Brooks Family. Incorporated in 1963, the town still remained small in size with the numbers seeing an increase only during the tourist season. However, the number of tourists did nothing to affect the calm and peaceful atmosphere that the island is well known for. Much of this serenity is attributed to the fact that island is indeed small in terms of size. Also found here is the infamous swinging pontoon bridge which is the only one of its kind that is currently is use throughout the East Coast. The population in the island is estimated at 1800 with the majority of its resident living in Oyster Bat, Sea Trail and Sandpiper Bay. On the island itself, the amenities are quite sparse and limited but cross the bridge and you will find numerous dining options, retail stores, groceries, golf courses, a planetarium as well as a bridge. Less than 5 miles away is Calabash which is considered to be seafood heaven. Even further at 7 miles is Ocean Isle and North Myrtle Beach attractions are about a 15 minute drive from the swinging pontoon bridge. A great combination of country, rustic charm and modern amenities, Sunset Beach, North Carolina would remain to be one of those rare places where you can enjoy the coastal view without having other people putting a damper on your experience.
